The National Maritime Administration and Safety Authority (SAFMAR) is an autonomous section of the Ministry of Transport and Communications. One of the main objectives of SAFMAR is to ensure safety of life at sea and it is therefore responsible for the coordination of maritime search and rescue operations within the Maritime Search and Rescue Region of Mozambique. MRCC Maputo currently maintains a continuous listening watch on 2182 kHz and VHF ch 16 for distress calls.
